MANILA - Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales brushed off Monday a planned impeachment complaint against her as Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno faced the same plight.

"No, it doesn’t matter, it does not worry me at all," Morales said of the case that anti-crime watchdog Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) threatened to file against her.

The VACC has accused Morales of inordinately delaying high-profile cases and having partiality on the case against former President Benigno Aquino III over the 2015 massacre of 44 policemen in Maguindano.

“That’s their opinion, I have no reaction to that,” Morales said.

The Ombudsman made the statement at the sidelines of a turnover ceremony, where she accepted the chairmanship of the Southeast Asia Parties Against Corruption (SEA-PAC) from Myanmar.

“It’s always fine-tuning areas of cooperation especially on anti-corruption and improving governance because by improving governance, we will hit corruption not necessarily eradication but at least we can minimize the incidence of corruption,” Morales said.

Duterte has encouraged impeachment cases against Morales and Sereno, whom he accused of working with those who want to oust him from power.

The House Justice Committee is still conducting hearings on the impeachment complaint against Sereno, despite the admission of complainant Larry Gadon that he has no personal knowledge on some of his allegations.
